Talking EdTech
Let's talk EdTech!
What is EdTech? EdTech is the abbreviated term for educational technology, which concerns technology that enhances students' education in and outside the classroom. In higher education, the use of EdTech is increasingly common. According to results from a WGUlabs study, alongside the benefits of these tools and systems comes another impact: technology fatigue and burnout.
The key takeaways from the study note:
"Faculty see using EdTech for teaching as valuable but do not trust products efficacy.
Faculty perceive that those furthest from the classroom influence EdTech decisions the most.
Faculty are wary of a tech-enabled future that is more standardized with less faculty-to-student interaction.
Faculty are experiencing high levels of technology fatigue and burnout. Seventy-seven percent of Faculty who responded to the survey agreed that they feel "always on the job because of technology."
So, how do we adopt EdTech without being over-encumbered by it?
Decide on platform adoption with those ultimately responsible for using it
Provide training and support for new platforms
Set guidelines for usage minimums and maximums
Give adequate time for platform integration
Allow for mishaps and frustration
